Inspiration

If I'm having bad writer's block or just don't know where to start a story, I often turn to music or others content for inspiration. That's not to say you should be plagiarizing, but rather that you can gather inspiration from any number of sources.

Perhaps a certain line in a song inspires you and you can base a story off of that (without plagiarizing the lyrics).

Or maybe you just saw a great movie and the type of relationship you saw two people having, or a look one character gave to another, or something somebody did has inspired you to write a story with a twist.

Things in real life can inspire gripping drama's as well, and I would wager many of the fictional accounts out there today have some basis in reality, or else they just wouldn't be all that interesting.

Another place I often get inspiration from is other people's writing.  Perhaps there was an issue somebody didn't fully explore that you'd like to write about, or maybe even something else about the style of writing that has inspired you.

Two great places to start getting inspired by fan fiction are Potions and Snitches and HPFF.

So pull out those CD's, visit YouTube, watch some DVD's, take into account what's going on around you in the real world, and let yourself be inspired.
